Open Assets

Changelog

User-facing changes in each Open Assets release, from 0.2.0 to 0.5.1: localization, the locale picker, faster parallel renders, the plugin, and fixes.

Releases are tagged in the GitHub repo and published to npm as @open-assets/open-assets.

0.5.1

2026-07-25

  • Fixed a deadlock where concurrent renders could hang until Chrome's protocol timeout. Each pooled page now gets its own browser context and is kept active and focused, so waits on fonts and image decoding settle.

0.5.0

2026-07-25

  • render exports every configured size by default. Before, a plain render produced only the source size and --force was needed for the export sizes. Now --force only means "ignore the cache". --size, --width and --height still narrow the selection.
  • Faster renders. Each template is loaded once per locale and screenshotted at every size from that one page load, and templates render concurrently. The --parallel flag was removed: concurrency is automatic, with OPEN_ASSETS_CONCURRENCY as an override.
  • Deterministic captures. CSS animations are paused at their first frame, and the renderer waits for fonts and image decoding instead of fixed delays.
  • --template renders now land in the same paths as a full render of the collection.
  • Claude Code plugin. The repo is now a plugin marketplace: /plugin marketplace add Parra-Inc/open-assets, then /plugin install open-assets@open-assets.
  • The skill documents when to use targeted renders and recommends committing assets.lock and exports/.
  • New examples: Tax Days and Thoughtful.

0.4.0

2026-04-11

  • Locale picker in the dev server. Localized collections get a locale switcher in the preview. The default locale comes from defaultLocalization in assets.json, then the strings file's sourceLanguage, then en.

0.3.0

2026-04-04

  • Localization. Collections can point at a localizations.json file and list locales. Templates use {{key}} placeholders and {{n:1234}} for locale-aware numbers. Each template renders once per locale, RTL locales get the right text direction, and render --locale renders a single language.
  • outFile supports {locale}, alongside {template}, so localized renders can go anywhere in your repo.
  • assets.lock records a checksum of each export's config (size, outFile, locale), so changing an export size or path triggers a re-render.

0.2.0

2026-03-28

  • --all renamed to --force for re-rendering everything regardless of the cache.
  • Outputs merged into export. Output actions like xcode and copy-source now live in the collection's export array alongside sizes.
  • Transparent PNGs by default, unless the collection sets a background.
  • The xcode output writes Contents.json along with the icon, and removes stale images from the icon set.
  • Single-template collections use a flat layout named after the size (for example exports/logo/1024.png).
  • assets.lock checksums include local files a template references directly (images, stylesheets), not only the template itself.
  • validate --fix interactively removes missing templates and empty collections.
  • Added the example projects.

0.1.x

2026-03-24 to 2026-03-25

Initial releases: the dev server, headless render, list, validate, init, the interactive add commands, assets.lock incremental renders, and the open-assets skills command.
