Claude Code
Install the Open Assets skill in Claude Code from the plugin marketplace, with npx open-assets skills, or the Skills CLI, and learn what the agent does with it.
Open Assets ships a Claude Code skill. With it installed, Claude knows the assets.json schema, the CLI, the localization format and a set of screenshot design rules, so you can ask for a full asset set in plain language.
There are three ways to install it. Pick one.
Option 1: plugin marketplace (recommended)
The repo is also a Claude Code plugin marketplace. Inside Claude Code, run:
/plugin marketplace add Parra-Inc/open-assets
/plugin install open-assets@open-assetsThe marketplace is named open-assets and it contains one plugin, also named open-assets (display name "Open Assets"). That is why the install command reads open-assets@open-assets.
A plugin install is per user, not per project: the skill works in every repo you open, and you never copy files into a project.
Updating
Pull the latest version of the marketplace, then reload:
/plugin marketplace update open-assetsThe plugin version follows the npm package version (both are 0.5.1 at the time of writing), so a plugin update and an npm upgrade go together.
Option 2: copy the skill into a project
The CLI can copy its bundled skill into a project:
npx open-assets skillsThis copies the package's skills/ folder to .claude/skills/, so the skill lands at .claude/skills/open-assets/SKILL.md. Pass a directory to install somewhere else:
npx open-assets skills ./my-appCommit .claude/skills/open-assets/ so everyone on the team gets the same skill. The copy is a snapshot: to update it, upgrade the npm package and run npx open-assets skills again (it overwrites the files).
See open-assets skills for the command reference.
Option 3: the Skills CLI
The skills CLI installs a skill straight from GitHub:
npx skills add https://github.com/Parra-Inc/open-assets --skill open-assetsThis records the source in a skills-lock.json file, so the CLI can update it later.
Which one to choose
| Method | Scope | Updates |
|---|---|---|
| Plugin marketplace | Every project, per user | /plugin marketplace update open-assets |
npx open-assets skills | One project, committed | Re-run after upgrading the package |
npx skills add | One project | Through the Skills CLI |
Use the marketplace for your own machine. Use a project install when you want teammates (or CI agents) to get the skill from the repo itself.
What the skill does
The skill is user-invocable, so you can call it directly with /open-assets, and Claude also loads it on its own when you ask for marketing assets. Once loaded, Claude can:
- Scaffold a project (
open-assets init) or add collections, templates and sizes toassets.json. - Write HTML templates at the collection's source size, with Tailwind CSS and assets from
public/. - Add a
localizations.jsonfile and wirelocalizationsandlocalesinto a collection. - Render with targeted commands (
--template,--collection,--size) while iterating, and use--forceonly when the cache must be bypassed. - Apply the design rules in the skill: short benefit-led headlines, a hero first screenshot, a call to action last.
The skill file, annotated walks through every section so you know what Claude will do before you ask.
First prompt
You need Node 18 or later and the package installed (see Install). Then try:
Set up open-assets in this repo and design 6 App Store screenshots for this app.
Use the screenshots in public/screenshots/ inside phone frames, bold headlines
with one highlighted keyword each, and a CTA on the last one. Export iPhone 6.9"
and 6.7".More prompts, and how to review what the agent produced, are on Prompts.
Using Cursor, Codex or another agent? The skill is a plain Markdown file, and the docs are available as llms.txt. See Other agents.
